There have been numerous times, throughout my life, I have been accused of “not playing nicely with others.” Unfortunately, I am ashamed to admit that these implications hold quite a bit of truth.
It’s a shortcoming that I continuously address, especially while perusing numerous social networks. In an attempt to play nice, I often find myself performing the 2013 version of “biting my tongue” – I sit on my hands. It’s the best way I know to stop myself from replying in a sarcastic and/or nasty tone to some request that, at that moment, I find irritating and ludicrous.
I can’t tell you how many requests I have received, maybe not quite like this one, from well meaning and excited parents:
And 9.864 times out of 10, I can either ignore the message or if I’m feeling really peppy, even go cast my vote for the kid. But, there is that 0.136th of a time that I feel the need to do this:
Yeah, I know. I’m setting the laptop down and sticking my hands back under my pudgy little thighs!
