The 5th Day of Christmas, it’s a biggie. The melody changes as does the rhythm of the song. Most versions agree that today, the recipient of gifts is given 5 gold rings.
You can also sing 5 golden rings, it fits a bit easier to the beat, as opposed to having to hold the “o” in gold for 2 counts.
Those who assign religious meaning to the 12 Days of Christmas, often associate today with the first 5 books, in the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
At the risk of starting yet another Holy War and further putting my ignorance on display; I believe these books,when referred to as a group, are called the Torah. They are also referred to as The Pentateuch. This is a Greek term
pent teuchos meaning “five-volumed (book): after the Jewish designation, the five-fifths of the law.
